James Panther is an incredible queer musician who has made a mainstream pop music video of his original song Desireable. When I watched this video I wept with joy to see local NW queer culture so clearly reflected. The video has friends of min in it, including my beloved Orion. Please, watch this video and share it with your firends. The message that self love and self worth are of central importance to human evolution is loud and clear in this video. It is also helpful if we use the Thunderclap app to boost James Panther’s Profile. We held and impromptu party for the release of his video on Tues March 17th and I asked James to put together a little blog with all the relevant links so that I could share it with everyone. Below is what he sent to me.

After 13 years of making music, I finally have something I think is important to share as widely as possible: my first music video for my song “desirable”. The song is really about reclaiming that word for one’s self, rather than looking to external sources for validation: commodified and mass marketed images of sexuality being sold to us and disconnecting us from our bodies. Capitalism functions in our self-perception by always making us believe we need to have and be more, and I hope this video and song can be medicine for that wound. I hope that through the internet and at more live shows, my music can give people a way into themselves, and hold space for people to feel and explore their inner realities, because I believe that’s where real power and the capacity to love comes from.
I wanted to show unity consciousness in my video: how nature and community that celebrates diversity heals simply and profoundly, and often effortlessly. I wanted to show that getting back to love and nature is my way out of this toxic, private, shaming relationship with myself that’s so influenced by body fascist imagery. I am absolutely an advocate for the LGBT community, for queer visibility, and making the concept of queer and free love and giving back to the earth mainstream like they were in the 60s. I have this concept in my mind, this sort of dream of popular music turning into this fusion of the 60’s hippie vibe with the punk/political ‘90s sound.
Please watch this video and if you like it, buy the single at jamespanther.bandcamp.com. I put everything I had into making it and I’m lucky to have gotten it premiered at Out.com and EQmusicblog.com. I’m attaching links to those 2, which both come with interviews.
